Peabody sophomore big man Jordan Mathews is The Town Talk’s athlete for the week for Jan. 17-23.

Last week, Mathews led the Warhorses to wins over Leesville and Bolton by averaging 21.5 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

This season, Mathews is averaging 11.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks for a Peabody squad that is 19-4 and ranked No. 7 in Class 4A.

Over 68,500 votes were cast this week as Mathews overtook Oak Hill sophomore Alexis Dyer’s lead Wednesday. Following those two in the poll were Natchitoches Central senior Dalyn Davis and Hicks sophomore Shyanne Phillips.
