Peabody sophomore big man Jordan Mathews is The Town Talk’s athlete for the week for Jan. 17-23.
Last week, Mathews led the Warhorses to wins over Leesville and Bolton by averaging 21.5 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
This season, Mathews is averaging 11.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks for a Peabody squad that is 19-4 and ranked No. 7 in Class 4A.
Over 68,500 votes were cast this week as Mathews overtook Oak Hill sophomore Alexis Dyer’s lead Wednesday. Following those two in the poll were Natchitoches Central senior Dalyn Davis and Hicks sophomore Shyanne Phillips.

Miaja Alexander, Marksville: Alexander scored 30 points with five rebounds and five steals in the Lady Tigers’ 45-37 win over Avoyelles Jan. 18.
Ally Clear, Pineville: Clear scored four goals and added an assist in the Lady Rebels’ 7-0 win over Southwood Jan. 17.
Dalyn Davis, Natchitoches Central: Davis averaged 21.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last week as the Chiefs eked out a win over Captain Shreve to make up for its loss to Southwood.
Alexis Dyer, Oak Hill: Dyer’s double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds led Oak Hill to a 75-42 win over Glenmora Jan. 21. Dyer added eight blocks and six assists.
Noah Jonker, ASH: Jonker averaged 20 points and 5.5 rebounds in wins over Ouachita and Pineville last week. Against the Lions on Jan. 18, Jonker made a 3-pointer with four seconds left in the fourth quarter and made six free throws in overtime.

Shyanne Phillips, Hicks: Phillips averaged 20 points in victories over Pleasant Hill and Simpson, including scoring 22 points against the Eagles on Jan. 18.
Ava Roy, Avoyelles Charter: Roy scored 29 points and made five 3-pointers in the Lady Vikings’ 55-52 win over Menard on Jan. 18.
Marilyn Seeling, Menard: Seeling scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Lady Eagles’ 55-52 loss to Avoyelles Charter on Jan. 18.
Dustin Welch, Anacoco: Welch led Anacoco with 20.5 points per game last week as it picked up wins against Singer and Pitkin.
