MILWAUKEE – Women’s basketball player Lauren Van Kleunen is the Baird Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2022, as chosen by Marquette Athletics’ Academics and Student Programs staff.
Van Kleunen completed her undergraduate degree in May 2019 with a bachelor of arts in public relations and earned her master’s in communications in 2021, specializing in media studies, along with a graduate certificate in leadership studies. She will complete her second graduate leadership certificate in May after recently concluding her sixth season with the Golden Eagles.
During her career at Marquette, she has been involved in the Star Leadership Program, the Alumni Mentor program, the MAGIS Mentor program, and is past-vice-president of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion on MU’s SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee). She has earned BIG EAST Academic recognition every semester, and AD Honor Roll each year. In the community, she has volunteered with Al’s Run, Interchange Food Pantry, Ronald McDonald House, and Milwaukee Public Schools. She also worked as a ticket sales intern in the Marquette Athletics Ticket Office.
Van Kleunen the women’s basketball program’s all-time leader in games played with 160 appearances, ranking fourth in NCAA history. In her final game in a MU uniform, Van Kleunen reached a pair of career milestones as she became just the sixth Golden Eagle to ever total 1,500 points and 800 rebounds She ranks ninth all-time in career rebounds (802) and 13th in career points (1,501). The Mason, Ohio, native led the squad in scoring this season with 13.7 points per game, while also averaging 6.4 boards and shooting a team-best 47.8 percent from the field.
