128 Spiders Earn Scholar Athlete Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Athletics Department presented its annual 2021-2022 Scholar Athlete Awards to 128 student-athletes Wednesday in the Millhiser Student-Athlete Development Center. Scholar Athletes represent those student-athletes who carry a cumulative grade point average over 3.50 after a minimum of two completed academic terms. 
 
Among the 128 recipients, senior Taylor Coleman from soccer and women’s track received the year’s Scholar Athlete of the Year.  Coleman is an Environmental Studies major with a minor in Latin America, Latino and Iberian Studies and recently earned the Presidential Citation Award at the annual SPIDY’s award show for Spider Athletics.
 
The Athletics Department also honored three senior student-athletes that performed at the top of their respective schools of study. Soccer’s Jaclyn Kemly was honored with the Robins School of Business Award, women’s track and field student-athlete Rachel Helbling was honored with the School of Arts & Sciences Award, while women’s track and field student-athlete Kayla Woods was honor with the Jepson School of Leadership Studies Award.

The men’s golf team took home the Men’s Team Academic Award for a third straight year as the men’s team with the highest combined GPA, while the swimming and diving won the Women’s Team Academic Award after posting the highest combined GPA among women’s teams.
